Architecture + Urban Design, 2016 Summer

This project mainly focuses on the extension of the Urban Grid system into the Vertical Superblock.
During a week of researches on different city grids: Manhattan, Barcelona and Brasilia, we compared various urban grid and parcel within the grid. The size of the block and the density of grid identified the characteristics of the function of the block. For example Manhattan, which had the smallest grid size among the three cities, tends to have more commercial than other two cities. The site locates at the riverside of Manhattan. Because of its geographical uniqueness and as the result of 4 coalesced blocks, we tried to form a super block within the city grid that inhabit different uses.
By pushing most of the density to the both side of the site, we propose a big open space in the middle. The extension of urban grid not only practiced through horizontal grid but also vertically.
